How do I end a row when crocheting to make my rows come out evenly?

I'm learning how to crochet, with the help of a more experienced friend and videos on YouTube. The problem is its really hard to figure out WHERE to end my row so they all come out evenly. Are there any good websites with picture tutorials for beginners?
