Can Virgo and Leo go from lovers to friends?

We ended on good terms. She was here for break but is now back in school. She called me a few hours after I told her I didn't want to do long distance anymore (but still want to be friends because she's awesome), to tell me she's going to be back in 10 days and wondered if I'd like to accompany her to watch her father in a play. Her voice was a little cracked, and she said "I'm sorry, I'm just a bit inarticulate right now." To make things sound more friendship-like, I said to her "I got my buddy Heather stuck in one of those baby swings cause I thought she was skinny enough to fit but obviously I was wrong. The kids, the teachers started to come out for recess, it was horrible. They had to cut her out." She laughed, and the mood eased up a bit. We never really lost attraction or anything like that. Is this really a friendship?
